ABOUT Laura Melillo

Chas Co is Laura (she/her) and a small team of part-time helpers: Ali (she/her), B (they/them), and Manny (they/them). All team members have several years of professional pet care experience, as well as their own delightful cast of personal pet family members.

Laura has been a professional pet caretaker since 2008. She also has experience in the animal rescue community as a volunteer, foster Mom, adopter, and co-founder of an animal rescue 501(c)3 non-profit.  She has cared for puppies to seniors, chihuahuas to great danes, feral street cats to fluffy persians, and all those in-between.

Laura recognizes the unique challenges faced by pet owners whose pets have special needs. She is able to offer experience, reliability, consistency, and special attention, to pets who larger services might reject or overlook.

Chas Co is named after Laura's cat Chas, who she rescued as a feral cat in Flatbush, Brooklyn, in 2006. Chas is both blind and feisty, and now in his 18th year also requires special medical care for kidney disease.  

Laura also has a nearly perfect dog named Paloma Lou, a rescue from The Sato Project.  Paloma and Laura are certified through The Good Dog Foundation as a Therapy Dog Volunteer Team.
